An Error Occurs When You Attempt to View a Published Repository and a Standalone Repository At the Same Time.

Laserfiche 7, Plus 7

Summary

Standalone editions of Laserfiche and the Plus CD viewer both utilize a version of the Laserfiche Server engine (LFEng.dll) to communicate with the SQL database. This means that you can potentially have two different versions of LFEng if you have both a standalone repository and a Plus CD on the same computer. This can create an issue because only one instance of LFEng can be running at a time on a computer. See the following table for more information:

Engine Currently Running LFEng Versions Match LFEng Versions Do Not Match
Standalone You can open a published repository. You will receive an error if you try to open a published repository.
Plus CD Viewer You can open a standalone repository; however, you will be limited to one read-only license regardless of what type of repository you open. You will receive an error if you try to open a standalone repository.

Resolution

If a computer contains both a standalone repository and a Plus published repository, use the following best practices when opening the appropriate repository:

  • When opening a standalone repository, always use the standalone client, not the Plus CD viewer.
  • When opening a published repository, you can use either the Plus CD viewer or the standalone client.
