Exporting a Folder That Contains a Shortcut to a Parent Folder of the Folder Being Exported Creates an Invalid Briefcase.

Summary

Exporting a folder that contains a shortcut to a parent folder of that folder results in an invalid briefcase. When you attempt to import such a briefcase, the import process fails and you may receive the following error message:

An error occurred while importing file YourBriefcase. If this error persists, contact your support personnel. [6000]

Cause

When the Laserfiche Server encounters a shortcut during a briefcase export, Laserfiche Server checks to see if the entry the shortcut points to is already in the briefcase. If so, the shortcut will point to the existing entry in the briefcase. If the entry the shortcut points to does not already exist in the briefcase, Laserfiche Server replaces the shortcut with the actual entry. This leads to a problem if a shortcut points to a parent folder of the folder you are exporting. When the export process encounters such a shortcut, the server notes that the folder does not exist and so adds that folder and its contents to the briefcase. This results in a briefcase that can contain the same entries twice. When importing such a briefcase, the Server can enter an infinite loop and can become non-responsive.

Resolution

This issue is resolved in Laserfiche 7.2 and later. Please upgrade to the latest version of Laserfiche.

More Information

This issue also affects publishing data using Laserfiche Plus, because Plus uses the briefcase exported by the Laserfiche Server during the publishing process. When Plus attempts to import the invalid briefcase during its publishing process, you may receive the following error message:

    Error 6505 (server not found).

After returning this error message, Plus becomes non-responsive.
