Summary

This article documents how to upgrade from Laserfiche Scanning 7.0.x to Laserfiche Scanning 7.1 or 7.2, and how to install or update ScanConnect 6.0 or 7.0 for use with Laserfiche Scanning 7.1 or 7.2.

Resolution

Laserfiche Scanning is contained in a separate installation from the main Laserfiche Client installation. If the Laserfiche Client 7.1 or 7.2 installation detects Laserfiche Scanning 7.0.x is installed, you will be presented with the option to remove Laserfiche Scanning. Do not choose to remove Laserfiche Scanning. Cancel out of the dialog box and continue with the Laserfiche Client 7.1 or 7.2 installation. On the final step of the Laserfiche Client installation, you should select the Install Scanning check box. Click Finish to complete the Laserfiche Client installation. The Laserfiche Scanning installation will automatically be loaded. After completing the Laserfiche Scanning installation, you will have successfully upgraded Laserfiche Scanning.

Removing Laserfiche Scanning 7.0.x prior to installing Laserfiche Scanning 7.1 or 7.2 can cause issues if Laserfiche ScanConnect 7.0 or earlier was installed. These issues arise because uninstalling Laserfiche Scanning will remove ScanConnect registry values. This will make Laserfiche ScanConnect unavailable from Laserfiche.

New installations of Laserfiche ScanConnect 7.1 or 7.2 are compatible with Scanning 7.1 or 7.2, respectively. If you are performing a new installation of ScanConnect 6 or 7.0, you will need to upgrade it for use with Scanning 7.1 or 7.2. This will update the Laserfiche component of ScanConnect, but will not update the scanner drivers themselves. Updated scanner drivers can be obtained by purchasing ScanConnect 7.1. You can also contact your scanner manufacturer for information on new scanner drivers.

To install ScanConnect 6 for Laserfiche Scanning 7.1

Note: You will be prompted to insert your ScanConnect 6 installation CD during this installation process. You should have your ScanConnect 6 installation CD ready before beginning the installation.

1. Click the following link to download the ScanConnect 6 to 7 Helper utility:
   ScanConnect6Helper.zip
2. Extract the contents of the archive to a temporary location.
3. Double-click ScanConnect6To7.exe. This will begin the ScanConnect 6 to 7 Helper utility, which will walk you through the installation of ScanConnect 6 for use with Laserfiche Scanning 7.1.

To install ScanConnect 7.0 for Laserfiche Scanning 7.1

1. Install Laserfiche ScanConnect 7 from the ScanConnect 7 CD.
2. Click the following link to download a zip file containing the ScanConnect Upgrade Utility:
   ScanConnect Upgrade for LF71.zip
3. Extract the contents of the archive to a temporary location.
4. Double-click ScanConnect71Upgrade.exe to upgrade ScanConnect for use with Laserfiche Scanning 7.1.

Note: The ScanConnect 6 to 7 Helper utility allows a direct installation of ScanConnect 6 without the installation of the Laserfiche Client or Scanning 6. Since ScanConnect 7.0 can be installed directly on a computer with the Laserfiche Client and Scanning 7.1, no helper utility is needed.

If ScanConnect 6 or 7.0 is already installed on your computer, you may need to upgrade it for use with Laserfiche Scanning 7.1. If you are unsure whether Laserfiche ScanConnect has been updated, you can check for either of the following:

• The Select Paper Size and the Select Paper Source toolbar options are disabled when the scan source is set to Laserfiche ScanConnect.
• The modification date of the LFIsisEng.dll file (located at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Laserfiche\Batch Processor\LF ISIS Engine) is set to a date that occurs before May 09, 2005.

If either of those apply to your installation, you should use the ScanConnect Upgrade Utility to upgrade your existing ScanConnect 6 or 7.0 installation for use with Laserfiche Scanning 7.1.

To upgrade ScanConnect 6 or 7.0 for Laserfiche Scanning 7.1

1. Click the following link to download a zip file containing the ScanConnect Upgrade Utility:
   ScanConnect Upgrade for LF71.zip
2. Extract the contents of the archive to a temporary location.
3. Double-click ScanConnect71Upgrade.exe to upgrade ScanConnect for use with Laserfiche Scanning 7.1.
