Determining Which Physical Volume will Store Data for a Document Assigned to a Logical Volume.

Summary

Assigning a document to a logical volume will cause Laserfiche to store information in the last physical volume that was created for that logical volume. However, this does not mean that you cannot add data into a physical volume that was previously rolled over. One way in which this can be performed is by adding images and/or text into a document that was previously assigned to the logical volume. Another way in which this can be performed requires that you have sufficient rights to the desired physical volume and that the volume has not reached or exceeded its maximum size. In such a case, you may import a new document or migrate an existing document to that physical volume.

More Information

All pages in a document are stored in the same physical volume. This can create a situation where data can be added to a physical volume that has already reached the administrator-defined maximum size. This occurs when pages are inserted into or when OCR processing is performed on a document associated with that physical volume. This is the only situation in which Laserfiche allows data to be added to a physical volume that has already reached its maximum size.

When determining which physical volume will be assigned to a document, Laserfiche will always choose the last physical volume that was created for the specified logical volume. Laserfiche does not take into consideration whether space has been cleared up on a physical volume associated with that logical volume. In other words, clearing up space on a physical volume by deleting documents will not cause the next document to be associated with that logical volume to be stored in the physical volume that now has available space.
