Displaying Long Entry Names.

Laserfiche 6, Plus 6

Summary

Laserfiche 7 introduced the ability to create a document, folder, or a shortcut with a name that exceeds 31 characters. When the Laserfiche client (version 6) encounters such an entry, it will shorten the name to the first 21 to 28 characters. It will then append a ~ followed by a # symbol. The remaining characters will display the hex value corresponding to the ID assigned to the document, folder, or shortcut.

More Information

The Laserfiche client (version 6) can only display names that contain up to 31 characters. Therefore, the name needs to be shortened. The number of characters that will be kept is determined by the length of the hex value of the ID assigned to the document, folder, or shortcut in question. In other words, the more characters that are used by the hex value of the object ID, the less characters that are available for the original name.

In order to ensure that all entries have unique names, Laserfiche prevents the use of this naming convention. It will not let you specify a name that contains exactly 31 characters that ends with "~#" followed by a hex value. A hex value consists of the following character set: 0-9 and A-F.
