An "Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package." Error Occurs When Installing Laserfiche.

Summary

When installing Laserfiche, you may receive the following error message:

    Error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A script required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.

Cause

There are two common causes for this issue:

  1. Antivirus programs can prevent you from installing Laserfiche. See Resolution 1.
  2. The latest version of Windows Script 5.6 is not installed on the computer. See Resolution 2.

Resolution 1

An antivirus program is running and preventing you from installing Laserfiche. Temporarily disable your antivirus program and rerun the Laserfiche installation program.

Resolution 2

An appropriate version of Windows Script may not be installed.

To display the version of Windows Script installed on a computer:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and browse to C:\Windows\System32.
  2. Select the cscript.exe file.
  3. From the File menu, select Properties.
  4. Click the Version tab.
  5. The file version should be 5.6.0.8825 or later.
