Snapshot 6.1

Summary

This article documents known issues with Laserfiche Snapshot 6.1.

More Information

Known issues for version 6.1:

1000720 Laserfiche Snapshot Cannot Be Uninstalled If Another Shared Snapshot Printer Has Been Added.
1000721 The Print Dialog Box Appears When You OCR a HTML or HTM File.
1000834 Images Appear Smaller When Printed in Landscape Orientation from Adobe Reader (version 5). (14472)
1000838 Laserfiche Repositories (Version 5) are Not Being Displayed.
1000839 Deleting a Shared Snapshot Printer Does Not Remove the Printer Driver.

  • Some printer driver settings are not saved, such as the position and color of embedded annotations. (17681)
  • A generated LST file does not store field security information. When importing, LFASSIST does not check whether a field specified in the LST file is accessible to the current user. If the user account used to run LFASSIST is different from the user account used to specify the document properties, fields may be populated with incorrect values. If field security has been assigned to a template, make sure that you use the same user account used to set up the document properties to import the document. (17411)
  • When printing from Laserfiche 6 on Windows 98 or Windows ME, color annotations and stamps in color will be printed as black and white. (14618)
  • When printing documents that contain a watermark, you can set Snapshot to use the "Stretched to Fit" position option. This setting does not function correctly. (14601)
  • When printing documents that contain a watermark, the watermark is drawn onto the page before anything else gets drawn to the page. Thus, the watermark can become completely hidden after printing. This is a Black Ice printer driver issue. (14586)
  • If the PDF uses embedded fonts, then the text in the PDF which uses those fonts will not appear correctly when printed to a Snapshot printer shared over the network. You can tell if a PDF has embedded fonts by viewing the document properties in Adobe Reader. (14676)
  • The shared Snapshot output folder should not be set to a network folder. If you do, then the files may be generated in C:\Windows\temp rather than the specified output folder. (14740)
  • Text is shifted up or down when printing a WordPerfect document so that the created image file does not match the way the document looks when printed to paper. (16005)
  • If you do not have the Windows Manage Printers right on the Snapshot printer, be aware of the following:
    • Do not run LFAssist when updating electronic document images.
    • A dialog box asking you for login information will appear each time you attempt to update the images of an electronic document. You can cancel out of this first dialog box and not enter a user name and password. However, you must click OK to the second underlying dialog box.
    • The print queue must be empty.
  • Using the Landscape option to print your documents may produce unexpected results. If you would like to print documents in a landscape orientation, you should use the Variable Paper Size option to specify the dimensions for the images to be printed. (10710)
  • Certain applications, such as Windows Fax and Picture Viewer, will not recognize the temporary directory if it is set using an environment variable. In this situation, temporary files will be stored in C:\Windows\Temp instead of the desired directory. This may prevent your files from automatically being imported by LFAssist. However, you may manually import the list files into Laserfiche. (10298)
  • Laserfiche Snapshot does not support printing documents stored in a Laserfiche repository version 6.03 or lower (including version 5.x). If you would like to print Laserfiche documents, then you will need to upgrade to Laserfiche version 6.04 or use a legacy version of Laserfiche Snapshot. However, regardless of your version of Laserfiche, you may always use Laserfiche Snapshot to generate Laserfiche documents from other applications.
  • When printing remotely with Laserfiche Snapshot from a computer on which Laserfiche Snapshot has been installed, the temporary file storage location will be set to the location defined for the local Snapshot printer. If the remote Laserfiche Snapshot printer has not been configured to override this setting, then it will try to print to this path on the computer hosting the shared Snapshot printer. If the path does not exist, the files will be created in the Windows temporary directory.
  • When printing remotely with Laserfiche Snapshot from a computer on which Laserfiche Snapshot has not been installed, modifying printer settings will prompt the user to create the location specified for temporary file storage. Regardless of whether the user creates the folder, Laserfiche Snapshot will print to the correct location. (8732)
  • Printing a web page that contains frames can pop-up multiple Snapshot login and settings dialog boxes. (8676)
  • When printing remotely with Laserfiche Snapshot, keep in mind that the temporary file storage location is always on the computer hosting the Laserfiche Snapshot printer. If you decide to use the Browse button, it will display the folder structure relative to the current computer (not the computer on which Laserfiche Snapshot was installed).
  • Excel files cannot be OCRed from a Laserfiche repository while a cell in any Excel file is being modified. If this issue occurs, you may simply click off the cell in the offending Excel file. The OCR process will then continue to process the desired Excel file. (8087)
  • On Windows 95/98/ME, when setting the temporary file storage location you should make sure that the desired location exists. If the desired path does not currently exist, then you should create it prior to setting the temporary file storage location. (1261)
  • When using Snapshot with version 5.x, 6.0, 6.01, or 6.02 of a Laserfiche Standalone product (i.e. Executive, Plus, etc...), you should make sure that the Laserfiche Standalone product is not loaded when configuring or printing with Laserfiche Snapshot. If the Laserfiche Standalone product is loaded, then you may not be able to log into the repository through Laserfiche Snapshot. This will prevent Snapshot from performing repository validation and you will not be able to see the available templates, volumes, and folder structure of the repository where your documents will be stored. If this occurs, you may do one of the following:
    • If you do not need to retrieve repository information or validate your current settings, then you do not have to do anything. You can simply proceed with Snapshot configuration or assigning document properties.
    • If you would like to either retrieve repository information or validate your current settings, then you should simply close your Laserfiche Standalone product. From Laserfiche Snapshot, you should click the Repository Information tab. You should then click Change. This will open the Repository Login dialog box from which you will now be able to log into the Laserfiche repository.
  • Laserfiche Snapshot can print to a variety of image formats. However, some of these formats will produce illegible or Laserfiche-incompatible images. A list of image formats that should not be used can be found below:
    • TIFF LZW
    • JPEG LAB
    • TIFF JPEG
    • TIFF Packed
    • RAW CCITT (All types)
    • IBM MMR IOCA

Note: Each unsupported image format is labeled as "(Unsupported)" in the File format option (File Format tab of the Laserfiche Snapshot Printer Properties dialog box).

  • The name of the Laserfiche Snapshot printer should not be longer than 32 characters. By default, the printer is called "Laserfiche Snapshot", which is only 20 characters long. This name can be checked from the Printers and Faxes window, which can be opened from the Control Panel. During the Laserfiche Snapshot installation, it will check the length of the computer name on which it is being installed. If the computer name is longer than 9 characters, then the Laserfiche Snapshot printer will be renamed to a shorter name. This ensures that Laserfiche Snapshot will work as a network printer. If you plan to rename the computer on which Laserfiche Snapshot has already been installed and you would like to use it as a network printer, then you should make sure that the following string is less than 32 characters: Printer_Name on Computer_Name. For example, if your printer name is the default and it is installed on Machine1, then your configuration would meet this requirement (There are 32 characters in "Laserfiche Snapshot on Machine1".). However, if your computer name were to be any longer, then you would have to reduce the number of characters used in the name for the Laserfiche Snapshot printer.
  • Laserfiche Snapshot cannot be used as a network printer on Windows NT 4.0 nor can you print to a network printer from a Windows NT 4.0 workstation. You can only use Laserfiche Snapshot as a local printer on the Windows NT machine.
  • When printing from a remote computer, if the computer on which Laserfiche Snapshot is installed does not contain one or more fonts used in the document being printed, then it will use the closest matching font instead. This new font will be used when creating the image for the page in question. This may also happen when printing PDF files with embedded fonts.
  • Certain image formats (such as raw) may generate excessively large print jobs. Large print jobs may be very slow to process or even cause the print job to become unresponsive. A print queue containing an unresponsive print job can be cleared by restarting the affected computer.
  • The Raw data type should not be selected as your print processor. Printing with this type of configuration may cause your computer to become unstable.
  • The watermark feature is not supported when printing web pages. Attempting to use the watermark feature when printing a web page will create an image of the web page without the watermark. (8569)
