Summary

This article lists the possible issues you may encounter when using the Laserfiche Client (version 6) with the Laserfiche Server (version 7).

More Information

The Laserfiche client (version 6) can be used to access a Laserfiche repository (version 7). However, administrative tasks should not be performed from the Laserfiche client (version 6). Administrative tasks include: reindexing the repository, modifying feature and access rights, creating/modifying/deleting templates, volumes, users, and groups. Performing any of these tasks from the Laserfiche client (version 6) may produce unexpected results. Additonally, you may not be able to perform certain actions even though it may seem like you have been granted sufficient permissions. This occurs because the Laserfiche client (version 6) is not totally aware of all the Laserfiche (version 7) security settings.

Resolution

Always use the Laserfiche Administration Console (version 7) to perform administrative tasks. The Laserfiche client (version 6) should only be used for non-administrative tasks including: importing, searching, viewing, and modifying documents. The optimal solution is to upgrade all Laserfiche clients from version 6 to version 7.
