Summary
This article lists common issues that can arise during installation.
More Information
MDAC and MSDE:
MDAC and MSDE update the same set of shared files to different versions. If they are both installed without a reboot in between, the component will be left in an inconsistent state. As a result, if both MDAC and MSDE are to be installed on a machine, the installation will reboot before it is complete. After the machine reboots, the user should log in to the account they used before and the installation will complete. This will happen if the version of MDAC previously on the machine is less than 2.8 and if the Laserfiche Server (Team) is being installed.
Send to Laserfiche feature
The Send to Laserfiche feature registers itself with Microsoft Office using a registry key. If you have installed the Send to Laserfiche feature and it is unavailable, check to make sure this registry key exists: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\<AppName>\Addins\LFOffice.SaveToLF. <AppName> can be Excel, Word, or PowerPoint. For Outlook, the key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\LFOffice.SaveInOutlook. If you install the Laserfiche client before Office, the Send to Laserfiche feature should work once Office is installed. If it does not, you should repair the Client install using the procedure explained in the Laserfiche Installation Guide.
Service Settings
SQL Server has two authentication modes: Windows Authentication and password logon using the System Administrator account. By default, the System Administrator account is disabled, so most users will not be using it. If the Laserfiche Server and SQL Server are running on different machines, and the SQL Server is using Windows Authentication (once again, this is the default), the Laserfiche Server must be running in a domain user account. This can be set during the installation at the "Laserfiche Server Settings" step. The account must be recognized by both the computer where the Laserfiche Server is installed and the computer where the SQL Server is installed. The account should be created especially for the Laserfiche Server. The installation will give an error while copying files if the password is incorrect or if the account doesn't have "Logon as Service" right. Click Ignore on the error message and reset the account information in the Service Manager after the installation completes. To set the "Logon as Service" right before installation, open the Administrative Tools component in the Control Panel and then open Local Security Policy. From there, open the tree to Local Policies\User Rights Assignment and add the fully qualified (DOMAIN\user) account name to the "Log on as a service" entry.
Logging
In cases where an installation is unsuccessful for unknown reasons, increase the logging level for Windows Installer. Manually run the setup executable with the logging options enabled to create a log file.
setup /v"/l*v logfile"
The /v option passes the argument that is in quotes to Msiexec. The /l option enables Msiexec to write logging information to the log file identified by the term: logfile. The *v parameter sets the logging level at the most verbose.
Uninstallation
You should always uninstall Laserfiche 7 using the Add/Remove Programs option found in the Windows Control Panel. Do not manually delete files and registry settings as this can create a corrupted and incomplete installation with no simple way or repairing the installation.
