Configuring Windows Authentication and Password Authentication.

Laserfiche 6.1, Plus 6.1

Summary

Laserfiche provides two methods of authentication to gain entry into a Laserfiche database. Users can log into a database by specifying a user name and password or by Windows authentication. An administrator determines how a Laserfiche user can authenticate.

More Information

With password authentication, a user must type in a user name and password to log into a database. Laserfiche also allows users to log into a repository using Windows authentication. This grants the ability to log in without the need to specify a user name and password. This is accomplished by associating a Laserfiche user account with a unique Windows user account.

To configure Laserfiche to prompt for user account information when logging in:

  1. Start the Laserfiche Client and log in as a supervisor.
  2. From the Security menu, click User Manager.
  3. Under Users list, click a user that will authenticate using a user name and password.
  4. Click Password.
  5. In the Set Login dialog box, select the Allow user to login using password option.
  6. Type in the desired password.
  7. Click OK to save your changes.
  8. Repeat steps 3 - 7 as needed.
  9. Click OK to close the User Manager.

Note: In order for a user to log in using a password, he or she will need to make sure that the "Use Windows authentication" option is cleared when logging into the database.

To configure a database to allow users to authenticate using Windows authentication:

  1. Start the Laserfiche Client and log in as a supervisor.
  2. From the Security menu, select User Manager.
  3. Under Users list, select a user that will connect to the current database using Windows authentication.
  4. Click Password.
  5. In the Set Login dialog box, select the Allow user to be authenticated to domain option.
  6. Under the Domain account option, specify the Windows user account that will be associated with the selected Laserfiche user.
  7. Click OK to save your changes.
  8. Repeat steps 3 - 7 as needed.
  9. Click OK to close the User Manager.

Note: In order for a user to log in using a password, he or she will need to make sure that the "Use Windows authentication" option is marked when logging into the database.
