The LaserFiche Client cannot see the desired database. The desired database is not listed from the LaserFiche dialog box.
Perform the following to check for communications issues between the LaserFiche Client and the LaserFiche Server:
- Make sure the LaserFiche Server is running.
- Check to see if your network is supporting TCP/IP correctly by using the TCP/IP “ping” utility.
- Use the LaserFiche Ping utility (LFPing.exe) from the client to check if the mailslot broadcast mechanism is working properly. This utility is installed in the LaserFiche Client
program folder (by default, C:\Program Files\LaserFiche\LFW).
- Ensure that the server and clients are all within the same domain or workgroup.
- Check the log file (LFStartup.txt) to see that the database has initialized correctly. The log file can be found in the LaserFiche Server program directory (by default, C:\Program
Files\LaserFiche\LFS).
If there are no communication issues between the LaserFiche Server and the Client, then you should register the network database on the LaserFiche Client.
To register a network database
- Start the LaserFiche Client.
- In the LaserFiche Start dialog box, click New.
- In the New Database dialog box, select LaserFiche Server, and then click OK.
- Select Attach, and then click OK.
- Under Database Name, type in the name of the desired database.
- Under IP Address, type in the IP address or the computer name of the LaserFiche server.
- Click OK. LaserFiche will open the database.
- LaserFiche Client will now display the database in the database listing.
You can manually add a database to the LaserFiche Client database listing by editing the LF.ini file.
- From a text editor, open the LF.ini file. See the More Information section for information on the location of the LF.ini file for your operating system.
- Under the [IPDatabase] section, add a line that looks like the following:
DatabaseName=ComputerName
or
DatabaseName=IP_Address
- Save the changes.
