Server (MSDE) 6, Server (MSSQL) 6

Summary

This article describes how to attach a server database. When attaching a database, please make sure the folder paths to the database and SQL data file locations are correct. When specifying the SQL data file location, you should make sure to add the .mdf extension at the end of the SQL file name.

Resolution

Attach a server database by using the Laserfiche Administration Console.

To attach a server database:

  1. Click Start and select All Programs.
  2. Select Laserfiche and click Laserfiche Administration Console.
  3. Click the computer you want the database to attach to.
  4. From the Action menu, click Attach Database to bring up the Attach Database dialog box.
  5. In the Database name text box, type in the appropriate database name. Take note that this field is case sensitive.
  6. In the Database location text box, type in the path to the database folder. This is where document files are stored.
  7. In the SQL data file location text box, type in the path to the data MDF file.
  8. Click OK to finish attaching the database.

More Information

There are two types of server database attachment procedures. The first type attaches the database on the Laserfiche Server. This involves attaching the database in both Laserfiche and SQL Server. This attachment is done through the Laserfiche Administration Console and allows the server to broadcast the database. Without first attaching the database on the server, workstations will be unable to see or connect to the database.

Under certain circumstances, a workstation cannot see the broadcasted server database. These workstations must then manually attach the database through the Client. After performing this type of attachment, the affected database will appear in the Client's list of databases on the start screen. This type of attachment does not affect the Laserfiche or SQL Server. It simply registers the database, which allows the Client to see the database.
