While the Snapshot service is a .NET program, the rest of Snapshot is not. If .NET is not installed, you may receive errors involving error code 1053. The Snapshot service is only needed when the Snapshot printer is shared over the network. It is used to process print jobs coming over the network. Printing to Snapshot locally is possible even if the service is not running.
