Summary

Licenses issued for LaserFiche Server updates will no longer specify the number of full-featured or retrieval users that have been licensed to a particular installation. Although user licensing is not specified in the license file, updating your LaserFiche Server to the latest version will not affect the licensed number of full-featured and retrieval licenses.

Note: This article only pertains to updated license files. New customers will still receive a license file listing the licensed number of full-featured users and retrieval users.

More Information

The LaserFiche Server (version 6.0x) can be upgraded to version 6.1x in two different ways. You can either update an existing installation or you can install a new LaserFiche Server installation.

Note: If you plan on updating an existing installation of the LaserFiche Server (version 6.1), then the installation will not prompt for a license file. On the other hand, if you plan to install a new LaserFiche Server installation, then you can use your LaserFiche Server (version 6.1) license when the installation prompts for a license file.

To update an existing LaserFiche Server (version 6.0x) installation

1. From the computer on which the LaserFiche Server is installed, start the LaserFiche Server (version 6.1x) installation.
2. Proceed through the installation wizard until you are prompted for a license file.
3. Point the installation to the LaserFiche Server (version 6.1x) license.
4. Complete the installation to upgrade your LaserFiche Server.

To install the LaserFiche Server (version 6.1x)

1. From the computer on which the LaserFiche Server is installed, load Windows Explorer or another file management application.
2. Open the folder to which the LaserFiche Server has been installed. By default, this location is C:\Program Files\LaserFiche\LFS.
3. Find the LF.LIC file and copy it to a temporary location on your computer.
4. Copy the LaserFiche Server (version 6.1x) license to the same location as the previous step.
5. Uninstall the LaserFiche Server.
6. Start the LaserFiche Server (version 6.1x) installation.
7. Proceed through the installation wizard until you are prompted for a license file.
8. Point the installation to the LaserFiche Server license files. This location was used in steps 3 and 4.
9. Complete the LaserFiche Server installation.
