Configuring WebLink to Use Both Retrieval and Full-Featured Licenses.

WebLink 6,WebLink 7

Summary

Laserfiche WebLink is configured by default to only use retrieval licenses. This prevents the more valuable full-featured licenses from being used since WebLink is a read-only client. This configuration can be changed to allow WebLink to use full-featured licenses as well as retrieval licenses. WebLink will use all available retrieval licenses before switching to use full-featured licenses.

See Resolution 1 or Resolution 2 for configuring WebLink with Laserfiche Server 6.x. See Resolution 3 for configuring WebLink with Laserfiche Server 7.x.

Note: WebLink is a read-only thin client that does not provide any tools for editing data within the Laserfiche repository. Configuring WebLink to use full-featured licenses does not add functionality to it. This configuration simply allows users with only full-featured licenses to use WebLink without purchasing retrieval licenses.

Note: A retrieval client license provides only read-only functionality while a full-featured client license is required to write data to the Laserfiche repository.

Resolution 1

The Web Products Administrator's Utility provided with WebLink 6.15 and later contains an option to take advantage of both types of licenses. In this utility, under the General tab, select the Pool retrieval and full licenses check box to enable the ability to draw from the full-featured license pool.

Resolution 2

Users with WebLink 6.1 and earlier can manually enable the ability for WebLink to use full-featured licenses by editing the LFWeblink.ini file. However, this does not pool full-featured and retrieval licenses. Enabling the LegacyLogin setting will configure WebLink to use only full-featured licenses.

To configure WebLink to only use full-featured licenses

  1. From a text editor, open the LFWeblink.ini file. This file can be found in your C:\Windows folder on the computer hosting Laserfiche WebLink.
  2. Under the [Options] section, add the following line:

    LegacyLogin=1

  3. Save the LFWeblink.ini file.

Resolution 3

The Pool retrieval and full licenses option in the Web Products Administrator's Utility does not function with Laserfiche Server 7. Instead, manually add a registry value to enable Laserfiche Server to pool retrieval and full-featured licenses.

To allow the Laserfiche Server to pool retrieval and full-featured licenses

  1. From the computer hosting the Laserfiche Server, click Start and then click Run.
  2. Type the following and then click OK to load the Windows Registry Editor tool.

    regedt32

  3. Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  4. Expand SOFTWARE.
  5. Expand LASERFICHE.
  6. Expand Engine.
  7. Click 7.x.
  8. From the Edit menu, point to New, and click DWORD Value.
  9. Name the value:

    Flexible Licensing

  10. Double-click the new value and set it to 1.
  11. Restart the Laserfiche Server service.
    1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Administrative Tools.
    3. Double-click Services.
    4. Scroll down and select Laserfiche Server 7.x.
    5. From the Action menu, click Restart.

Note: Since this is a Laserfiche Server feature, it can potentially affect any client software that utilizes retrieval licenses. For example, if this feature is enabled, the Laserfiche Viewer will also be able to pull from the pool of full-featured licenses if all retrieval licenses are in use.
