LaserFiche Cannot OCR Photo Quality Snapshots of PDF documents.

Snapshot 6

Summary

OCR may not work correctly if the photo quality option is enabled in the Snapshot configuration.

Cause

When you Snapshot a PDF document, any gray or colored text becomes dithered as it is converted into a TIFF image. This dithering prevents the OCR engine from reading the colored letters properly. Disabling the photo quality option converts the text into straight black or white.

Workaround

Improve OCR quality by using the following instructions to disable the photo quality feature.

To disable photo quality in Snapshot:

  1. Click Start and select All Programs.
  2. Select the LaserFiche program group, select Snapshot, and click Snapshot Configuration (Current User).
  3. In the General tab, click on Settings.
  4. In the LaserFiche Snapshot Properties dialog box, click the File Formats tab.
  5. In the File Formats tab, make sure that the Disable Photo Quality option is selected. This option can be found in the Photo Quality section of the dialog box.
