Users with Legacy Passwords may be Denied Access to a LaserFiche Database.

March 12, 2004 | KB: 100048
Laserfiche 6, Plus 6

Summary

In LaserFiche version 4.x, passwords are stored as upper-case characters. LaserFiche version 5.x was changed to require a case-sensitive match when specifying a password. However, legacy passwords would remain as upper-case characters, unless the password was modified by the user. Users trying to log into a LaserFiche 6 database using a legacy password are denied access unless they specify their password in upper-case characters.

Resolution

Install LaserFiche Client, Desktop, Executive, Intuition, Notebook, Plus, or Viewer version 6.03 or higher. Additionally, install LaserFiche Server version 6.03 or higher.

And:
Modify legacy passwords from the Set User Password dialog box.

More Information

Legacy passwords (version 4.x) can now be specified using either upper-case or lower-case characters. However, it is highly recommended that all legacy passwords (version 4.x) be changed from the Set User Password dialog box. Keeping legacy passwords (version 4.x) may pose a security risk to the database. For information about changing a user's password, please refer to the LaserFiche User's Manual.

This issue was initially fixed in version 6.02.
