This article lists the new features for Quick Fields 6.2.
More Information
Electronic files are now supported by Quick Fields. This means that electronic files can be brought into Quick Fields and then sent to a LaserFiche database.
Images sent to an existing LaserFiche document can now be pre-pended to the document.
The Output pane will now dynamically display the information associated with the currently selected processed document.
Zoom fields can now be highlighted on the image. Additionally, you can customize the color that will be used to highlight the region associated with a zoom field.
Security has been expanded to allow an administrator to determine whether an Operator will be allowed to change scan or document delivery settings.
The Resume Scanning feature is introduced in this version. This feature allows user to continue scanning into a processed document. This is especially useful for scanners that jam
frequently.
Support for scanning images using the drivers provided by the Kofax ACE software has been added. The Kofax ACE software must be purchased separately.
The Color Smoothing image enhancement is introduced in this version. This image enhancement averages the background color of an image. This will reduce the number of colors used
in an image, which in turn will produce a cleaner image with a smaller file size.
The Dynamic Thresholding image enhancement is introduced in this version. This image enhancement will convert an entire or portion of a grayscale/color image to black & white. The
benefits from this feature include: decreasing the file size, optimizing text extraction, and preparing an image for additional image enhancement processing.
The Field Access add-on is introduced in this version. This add-on allows documents to be identified based on a token value.
The Pattern Matching add-on is introduced in this version. This add-on allows the use of regular expressions to format token information.
New Features for Capture Engine:
Files residing in sub-folders of the capture directory can now be retrieved in a single scan session. When this option has been enabled, Capture Engine will first retrieve the files
in the capture directory and then the files in each sub-folder. Each sub-folder will be processed in alphabetical order.
When retrieving electronic documents and the Presort images to reflect document structure option is marked, the associated electronic file will now be kept with the processed document.
The option to retrieve annotations and the text associated with a document is now available.
You may now select the type of objects (documents, electronic documents, batches, and shortcuts) that will be retrieved from the database.
You may now limit the number of files that will be retrieved in a single scan session.
You may now determine what happens to the LaserFiche document, electronic document, batch, and/or shortcut whose images and/or electronic file were captured. You can either move
them to another LaserFiche folder, delete them, or keep them in the current location.
New Features for Document Classification:
Document classes can now be copied within a session.
Token data can now be shared across document classes. Token data is shared through two new processes, which are the Token Collector and the Token Retriever. The Token Collector stores
the data and the Token Retriever gets the data. For information on how to share data between document classes, please refer to the documentation.
International OCR:
A new OCR engine (I.R.I.S. DRS 8.0) has been included with the LaserFiche Quick Fields. This OCR engine, called International OCR, supports the following languages:
Additionally, this new OCR engine introduces the auto-rotation feature. This feature will temporarily rotate images into an orientation suitable for OCR processing.
The International OCR add-on can also extract text from color images.
International Zone OCR:
A new OCR engine (I.R.I.S. DRS 8.0) has been included with the LaserFiche Quick Fields. This OCR engine, called International OCR, supports the following languages:
This new OCR engine introduces the zone orientation feature. This feature will temporarily rotate the region to be processed by a user-defined amount. This allows the
relative portion of an image to be rotated into an orientation suitable for OCR processing.
International Zone OCR can recognize text on multiple lines. Text from different lines will be separated by a line feed character. The amount of text that can be extracted from an
individual process per document is limited by either 12 lines of text or 240 characters. Text that exceeds this limitation will not
be stored. However, you may use additional processes within the same document to extract as much text as desired. (8687)
International Zone OCR add-on can extract text from color images.
New Features for Real-Time Lookup:
Index card fields populated by a Lookup process will now be dynamically updated when the lookup field has been assigned to an index card field token. Whenever a user modifies
the data assigned to the lookup field, the index card fields designated for population by the Lookup process will be updated with data from the third-party database.
The Real-Time Lookup add-on has added support for the following ODBC data sources: Oracle and FoxPro.
New Features for Universal Capture:
Files residing in sub-folders of the directory specified by the Look for images in option can now be retrieved in a single scan session. When this option has been enabled, Universal
Capture will first retrieve the files in the capture directory and then the files in each sub-folder. Each sub-folder will be processed in alphabetical order.
Electronic files can now be captured into Quick Fields. Support for electronic file retrieval is only available when Universal Capture is used with Quick Fields. When Universal Capture
is used with the LaserFiche client, file capture is still limited to TIFF, Bitmap, and JPEG files.
A custom file filter can now be created to designate the type of files that will be retrieved into Quick Fields. Custom file filters are only available when Universal Capture is
used with Quick Fields.
