Summary

In order to use Laserfiche Mobile, you must install the Laserfiche Mobile Add-on for Web Access and the Laserfiche Mobile App.

Important: If you have an older version of the Laserfiche Mobile Add-on installed with your Web Access server, you must update your add-on to be compatible with the latest Laserfiche Mobile app. Users running a Web Access 8.3 server should update their Add-on to Laserfiche Mobile Add-on 8.3.2; users running a Web Access 8.2 server should update their Add-on to Laserfiche Mobile Add-on 8.2.2.

Installation

Complete the following steps:

  1. On the machine hosting Web Access, download the Laserfiche Mobile add-on for Web Access from the Laserfiche Support Site. This add-on installs the component that enables Web Access to accept connections from Laserfiche Mobile, as well as the Laserfiche Mobile Image Processing service which enables you to process images captured with Laserfiche Mobile.
  2. Run the install. In the Language Selection dialog box, select the language for the installation. Note: You must have a Rio or Avante license in order to use Laserfiche Mobile.
  3. On the Welcome step, click Next.
  4. On the License Agreement step, read the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the License Agreement if you agree to the terms of the license agreement. Click Next to continue.
  5. On the Choose Setup Type step, select the Typical setup type.
  6. On the Laserfiche Service Settings step, determine how the Laserfiche Mobile Distributed Processing Service Beta will log in. In the Account Name drop-down list, select Local System. Ensure that the Create Windows Firewall exception checkbox is filled in, and then click Next to continue.
  7. On the Ready to Install step, review the list of components under Components to install. If you are satisfied, click Install to continue. If you would like to include other components, press the Back button until you are back at the Choose Setup Type step.
  8. When the installation process is complete, click Finish to exit the installation wizard. If you chose the Typical setup type and you would like to use the Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service Beta, you must also install the service on the machine where you want to send the image processing work. See Using the Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service Beta section below for more information.
  9. Ensure that the WebAccessMobile sub-directory of the Laserfiche8 virtual directory of IIS has Anonymous access enabled.

  10. Install the latest Web Access 8.2.0 hotfix (Please see 1012723).
  11. Download the Laserfiche Mobile app from the iTunes App store to your iPhone or iPad.

Using the Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service

The Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service Beta is an optional component of the Laserfiche Mobile add-on for Web Access installation. When installed, the Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service Beta reduces the processing load of the Web Access Server by sending image processing work to other machines.

The Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service Beta has two components: the Scheduler and Workers. The Scheduler must be installed on the Web Access Server machine and is installed during a Typical or Custom installation of the Laserfiche Mobile add-on. The Scheduler communicates with the Web Access Server, and the Workers. The Scheduler breaks down processing work into tasks and sends them out to Workers, which perform the actual processing work. Output files from the Workers are returned to the Scheduler, which then returns the results to the Web Access Server.

Before you can use the Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service Beta, you must first install the Laserfiche Mobile add-on for Web Access on the Web Access Server machine. On the Choose Setup Type step of the installation, choose Typical.

Once you have finished installing the add-on, you must install the Distributed Processing Service Beta on the machine(s) that will perform the processing work.

To install a Distributed Processing Worker

  1. On the machine where you want to install the Distributed Processing Worker, download the Laserfiche Mobile add-on for Web Access from the Laserfiche Support Site.
  2. Run the install. In the Language Selection dialog box, select the language for the installation.
  3. On the Welcome step, click Next.
  4. On the License Agreement step, read the license agreement and select I accept the terms in the License Agreement if you agree to the terms of the license agreement. Click Next to continue.
  5. On the Choose Setup Type step, select the Custom setup type.
  6. On the Custom Setup step, clear the checkboxes next to Laserfiche Mobile Web Service and Laserfiche Distributed Processing Scheduler. Fill in the checkboxes next to Laserfiche Mobile Distributed Processing and Laserfiche Distributed Processing Worker.
  7. On the Laserfiche Service Settings step, determine how the Laserfiche Mobile Distributed Processing Service Beta will log in. In the Account Name drop-down list, select Local System. Ensure that the Create Windows Firewall exception checkbox is filled in, and then click Next to continue.
  8. On the Ready to Install step, review the list of components under Components to Install. If you are satisfied, click Install to continue. If you would like to include other components, press the Back button until you are back at the Choose Setup Type step.
  9. When the installation process is complete, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.

For the Distributed Processing Service Beta to work, you must configure the scheduler component of the service to communicate with the workers you installed.

Configuring the Laserfiche Distributed Processing Service Beta

  1. Open the Distributed Processing SystemConfig.xml file in any text editing program (e.g., Notepad).

    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

    <SystemConfigNode>

    <!-- The NodesInSystem section defines the locations of the nodes that make up the system. It allows this node to find the nodes it needs on the network. -->

    <NodesInSystem>

    <SchedulerNode>

    <HostName>localhost</HostName>

    </SchedulerNode>

    <!-- The Scheduler node needs to know where worker nodes are. -->

    <WorkerNodes/>

    </NodesInSystem>

    </SystemConfigNode>

    • On a 64-bit machine, it is located in C:\Program Files \Laserfiche\Distributed Processing\Config\SystemConfig.xml.
    • On a 32-bit machine, it is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Laserfiche\Distributed Processing\Config\SystemConfig.xml.
  2. Edit the SystemConfig.xml file to contain a WorkerNode for every worker you installed.
    1. Under <!-- The scheduler node needs to know where worker nodes are. -->, type <WorkerNode><HostName>HostName</HostName></WorkerNode> where HostName is the name of the machine where the worker is installed.
      • Example: If there are two workers installed on machines with host names "Rupert" and "Roger," you would edit the SystemConfig.xml to look like this.

      <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

      <SystemConfigNode>

      <!-- The NodesInSystem section defines the locations of the nodes that make up the system. It allows this node to find the nodes it needs on the network. -->

      <NodesInSystem>

      <SchedulerNode>

      <HostName>localhost</HostName>

      </SchedulerNode>

      <!-- The Scheduler node needs to know where worker nodes are. -->

      <WorkerNodes>

      <WorkerNode><HostName>Rupert</HostName></WorkerNode>

      <WorkerNode><HostName>Roger</HostName></WorkerNode> </WorkerNodes>

      </NodesInSystem>

      </SystemConfigNode>

    2. Repeat Step 1 for each worker you installed.
  3. Save and close the SystemConfig.xml file.
  4. Restart the Distributed Processing Node service.
    1. From the Windows desktop, click Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and double-click Services to open it.
    2. Right-click the Laserfiche Distributed Processing Node service and click Restart.
